The worst year for the superior white truffle is coming to an end, a season whose negative data has not been registered for about forty years. Amid climate change, poor rainfall and regulations that vary from region to region, the 2024 harvest was really poor, driving prices skyrocketing.
To give a brief comment, if in previous years the average price was about 1,500 euros per kilo this year we reached 4-5 thousand. A loud alarm bell that has attracted the attention of experts. The world of truffles is in a phase of change, especially related to the changes in the climate and it’s time to implement important interventions to avoid that the fungal underground can become increasingly difficult to find.
While the experts are archiving the bad year, the expression “truffle crisis” is becoming more and more widespread. It is still early to say what will happen in the 2025 season of white truffle but the hope is that this year does not repeat itself.
